Sexual prosthetics for women were developed in recent decades in an attempt to reduce orgasm difficulties. Progress has been made in creating a quality-of-life prosthetic with the ability to stimulate sexual arousal for up to 8 hours. Although vaginal prostheses are designed primarily for women, some versions are available in men as well. The prosthesis is implanted in the urethra via the urethral catheter and is connected to an electrical stimulator that is wired directly to the spinal cord, where electrical impulses are sent directly to the genitalia.
