He said that he was “very impressed” by the fact that Mr Ball, 48, was not likely to have been in the front of the queue for the BBC interview with him because he was known as a quiet, unassuming farmer.
Mr Ball said: “I didn’t even know there was a journalist there. I thought the farmer was singing the national anthem.”
There were complaints about Mr Ball from the audience, however. One of them, Richard Barbier, 72, from Clapham, said: “He was singing the wrong song.
“I thought he was singing Chariots of Fire, which is not one of my favourites.”
